Yup. This is one of the reasons why I’ve always been against the “agreement” theory. One, it doesn’t hold up. Two, it relies on MM not dishing dirt that there was some kind of agreement for marriage to begin with. Three, if it were true, then MM could easily make it all public in a scorched earth campaign, which would ruin all members of the royal family including the Queen.
