I’m not really …. mature? (I know, I’m chronologically mature, but….) enough to deal with the shit in the royal fandom. I’m trying something: I’m allowing myself either one post or one reblog a day. So for today I have a story for anyone who cares to read it. A “friend” told me. (*Where’s a good *wink* gif when you need it?*)

Anyway, there’s this guy on twitter. AHEM. Person on twitter. Person hates Kate. I don’t use the word hate lightly. I mean, Person hates her like you would not believe. It’s bad. Person has called pretty much every bad thing you can call someone, and said pretty much every vile thing you can say about someone. Like, whatever Kate did to Person, I cannot even fathom that it warrants this level (and longitude) of hate. We’re talking YEARS, this has been going on. Person logs on twitter every single day since before Kate even became a member of the royal family by marriage. So that’s what? Going on seven years now? 365 times seven! Hateful tweets about Kate for 2,555 days!!!! WTF? Productive? Well, yeah, productive of something, but nothing good. One example: Kate wore some bracelet that, I guess, was a gift from Camilla, and it had Kate & Will’s new cypher on it, and Person called Kate a pretentious, social-climbing whore. 

Person really likes Meghan Markle. Like omg likes Meghan Markle to the moon. Meghan Markle can do no wrong. Meghan Markle is a “hard working, self-made woman” who is inspirational and fashionable and just perfect in every way. Meghan Markle will probably (according to Person) go on to be patron of more charities and do more for said charities than any royal in the history of, well, ever. She got a dishwashing liquid company to change its word from “women” to “people” for christ’s sake (all because a boy in her class made a joke about women in the kitchen), and if she could do that at age (whatever) what can she do at age 36? She might even get the royal family to change the His/Her in Royal Highness to a non-gender-specific pronoun!! Justin Trudeau will be so proud of her! 

I got off on such a tangent I forgot the point of my story, but since I’m limiting myself to one post per day I don’t want to waste it. So yeah, according to Person on Twitter, Kate is a social-climbing whore and Meghan Markle is the savior of humanity. I just have to wonder what Person expects Meghan to do? It is said that Meghan wants to focus on gender equality. Now that we have everyone talking about Harry’s new role in the Commonwealth,and Harry saying that Meghan will join him in this work, it seems that Meghan may want to push for absolute gender equality in all the Commonwealth. That will be a tall order. A fairly sizable portion of the Commonwealth contains countries where a majority of the people belong to a religion that does not regard women as equal to men or as having any of the same rights as men. 

One example: Prince William has just met with the President of Kenya. It seemed like a nice meeting. They smiled a lot and looked very happy to meet each other. The President came across as a very nice man. I don’t know anything about him, but did you know that in Kenya, it is illegal to be homosexual? ILLEGAL!!!!!! Meaning: Against the LAW!!! Just to BE homosexual. Forget about marriage rights. We’re talking about the right to EXIST as a human being if you are homosexual. You can even go to prison for it. It’s true. Look it up. It was that way in the UK once upon a time (hello, Oscar Wilde) but that was the 19th century. 

I guess my point is, it will be easy for Meghan to talk about gender equality in Great Britain, or the United States, or France, or anywhere in Western Europe, or Canada…. In these places, most people agree that homosexuality should not be criminalized and that men and women deserve the same rights: of freedom, of voting, of life and liberty, etc. But you know, if she’s going to talk to the Prince of Brunei (where homosexuality is punishable by death penalty) and talking about LGBT rights and gender equality….. hmm. It could stir the pot a bit and make a lot of people uncomfortable. 

I’m OK with that!!!! I WANT people to get uncomfortable about these things. I WANT change. I WANT progress. I am a liberal! 

But I’ve seen this tune before. And I just have to wonder what the Muslims Meghan met at the mosque in London have to say about gender equality. But I know, I know…. It’s not fair to question Muslims about that, because that’s Islamophobia. If a culture is ACTUALLY against gender equality or LGBT rights, you just have to accept it, right? Because if you don’t you’re being racist.
