I’m sorry but this looks like Middle School aka prep school graduation especially if private school. My sister had the same when she was enrolled in private school. She had a graduation for prep, secondary and then at the end of uni.
mm’s tassel says 95 so if she was born in 1981, in 1995.she would’ve been 14 years old. And the American schooling system is somewhat the same as in Portugal so at 14/15 you do go from prep to secondary school.
You finish secondary at 18/19 So the one she’s with her mom and dad with the black robe I believe is her secondary school one. Aka the end of her 12th grade.
Seems to me that she used her secondary grad photos and is trying to pass it as Uni grad.

Yes, it’s an 8th grade/middle school graduation photo. It is not uncommon in the US for these to happen. This has been discussed before.
Kind of hard to fake your age in California where there are open records.
