AHPF did an extensive post on MM’s tax issues check her archives it was done pre engagement. And yes, if she was gifted the engagement ring and it is worth more than a certain amount she has to pay tax on it. Gifts are taxable. Same with any “gifted” clothes or jewelry. JM has claimed to have given MM clothes and jewelry so if it passes the threshold it is also taxable. Megsy has financial advisors she knows what her tax situation is.

Yes, gifts can be taxable. However, I doubt that the IRS is going to come after her for the value of her engagement ring. Gifts from a spouse are excluded from the gift tax.

The thing is that no one knows exactly what Megs tax situation is. The Daily Mail posts a click-baity article on her tax situation and then people start assuming that she is avoiding paying taxes. No one knows if that is true. People are running with the assumption that merching  = not paying taxes. And no one really knows if that is actually true or not. Megs may have been raised to believe that the IRS has more power than God, and perhaps she always pays her taxes due to that. 

But instead we have articles that point out the new financial territory the BRF is in because Harry married her, and then people go apeshit assuming she’s going to go to jail for tax fraud and avoidance. Sorry. It’s just not true, and no one can prove otherwise.
