Meghan’s acting past will haunt her charity work. As far as most are concerned she’s still an actress and always will be and therefore nothing is genuine, and lately people are seeing right through these Hollywood types more than ever. She may have the ability to hype her charities and get widespread attention for herself but it ends there, no one but a few naive idiots will buy into the Mother Theresa act.

This is one of her big problems.

The Harriet Tubman $20 Stamp

jkottke:

Frustrated that the US Treasury Department is walking back plans to replace Andrew Jackson on the front of the $20 bill with Harriet Tubman, Dano Wall created a 3D-printed stamp that can be used to transform Jacksons into Tubmans on the twenties in your pocketbook.

Tubman $20 Stamp

Here’s a video of the stamp in action. Wall told The Awesome Foundation a little bit about the genesis of the project:

I was inspired by the news that Harriet Tubman would replace Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill, and subsequently saddened by the news that the Trump administration was walking back that plan. So I created a stamp to convert Jacksons into Tubmans myself. I have been stamping $20 bills and entering them into circulation for the last year, and gifting stamps to friends to do the same.

If you have access to a 3D printer (perhaps at your local library or you can also use a online 3D printing service), you can download the print files at Thingiverse and make your own stamp for use at home.

Wall also posted a link to some neat prior art: suffragettes in Britain modifying coins with a “VOTES FOR WOMEN” slogan in the early 20th century.

Votes For Women Coin

I like Sky Rhiannon she is an actual journalist. She has a tweet up talking bout the debate in the newsroom about using the Cookbook video because it is pr no opportunity to actually question etc. 2nd post from a reporter on this issue of MM not facing the media and answering questions. They clearly see it is a pr splash.

anonymoushouseplantfan:

Lord the sugar comments on that tweet. They don’t understand Rhiannon’s point at all.

https://twitter.com/SkyRhiannon/status/1041949257014685696

The kind of fantasy Meghan is spinning is fine in Hollywood, but once you are in the political sphere or in the royal family, it becomes propaganda. It’s as real as Trump’s supposed riches and blue collar sympathies and just as seductive. Rhiannon is correct to be wary of it.

But the UK press is in a bind because they’ve been letting the royal propaganda skate so far. Now, sure, they did it because the royals were relatively discreet about it. They visit the Grenfell victims and do fundraisers, but their pictures aren’t in the front and the interactions are a ritualized posy offering and maybe a quick hug.

This was different

I think part of the reason her sugars are so….eh….extreme, is cos of that love shield statement of Harry’s. He came off the bat calling reporters racists & the sugars jumped on that without even looking for any evidence of racist articles. Given racism is also a very real thing. So now every time a reporter offers an opinion counter to the sugar MM narrative, they are branded racist. There is no legitimate way the press can speak out without that backlash

anonymoushouseplantfan:

Yep.

Did you catch Meghan saying that she and Harry are going to be busy visiting all of the Commonwealth? She couldn’t make it more obvious that her and Harry are pushing for as much prominence as possible. Americans have a reputation in the UK for being pushy (I’m American and married a Brit) and lines like that certainly won’t help her. It makes her and Harry come off as assuming and entitled but it’s obvious she just doesn’t realise. I bet she thinks she’s nailing it and everyone loves her LOL.

anonymoushouseplantfan:

Meghan is the epitome of pushy.

Well whenever her secrets (Oct) are revealed and let’s say for the sake of argument that it IS money laundering. It puts this cookbook and the whole fund raising/ charity in jeopardy. She’s still super shady AF but I’m going w/ the consistency of her bad karma. I hope I’m wrong for the sake of those poor people who lost soooo much but yeah, the odds are not in her favor. IMO

I’m not going to get my expectations up about October at this point. Money laundering is really hard to prove in newspaper articles, particularly since no one can order the royal books open for review, even after what happened with Air Miles Andy.

So we’ll see…

Practices That Make You Better Every Day

Making small improvements on a regular basis may actually be better and more effective than trying to make a lot of big changes at once. Small changes will eventually turn into habits, while trying to make a large change could lead to feelings of being overwhelmed, and ultimately failure.

1. Keep a reading habit.

Reading will not only help you increase your knowledge base, but also expose you to new words constantly, which will keep your brain growing. Just like going for a run gives your heart and muscles some exercise, reading helps improve your memory function by giving your brain a proper workout. A good reading habit will help you reduce your daily stress, improve your memory, and even make you more creative. As it helps to ward off Alzheimer’s and dementia, reading will also keep your mind healthy.Whether you can read during breaks at work, on your commute, or even to your child at night, add in as much reading to your day as possible.

2. Have a growth mindset.

People who have a fixed mindset believe that you are born with your talents, and no matter how much you practice or try, you can only reach a certain level of achievement.

However, with a growth mindset, you believe that you can always continue to improve yourself. Never stop learning and educating yourself. Having a growth mindset will let you develop your abilities and intelligence with effort, learning, and persistence.

3. Meditate regularly.

People have been meditating for thousands of years to combat stress and anxiety. Meditation, and especially mindfulness meditation, allows you to have peace and clarity in the present moment of awareness.

There are many different ways to meditate, but all of the techniques revolve around cultivating awareness and expanding your consciousness.  The purpose of meditation depends on who is meditating, but anyone who meditates on a regular basis will benefit from it in physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual ways.  It relieves stress and anxiety, decreases blood pressure, lowers cholesterol, helps the body use oxygen more efficiently, and improves sleep.

4. Align your priorities with your goals and values.

Your priorities are the things that are the most important and meaningful in your life at the present moment. If you want to improve yourself, you must make it something that you are not willing to compromise.

Examine your values and goals, and make sure you are doing what you can today to ultimately reach those goals. You won’t get anywhere without setting a goal and making sure that you have a plan in place.

5. Visualize your success.

When you think about a big goal you have or an accomplishment that you want to pursue, it is normal to consider the obstacles that you will have to face.

The problem is, that we tend to let these obstacles overtake our dreams, and it ends up preventing us from making any progress. But instead of creating barriers, envision victory.

Literally, visualize what it would feel like to achieve your goals. What would it look like, who would be around, and what implications would it have for your future? If you can see yourself obtaining your goal, it will be easier to work toward that goal.

6. Measure your improvement.

Measuring your progress is a vital part of achieving any goal. It can help you stay on track and keep you motivated to move forward, even when you touch on a rough spot. Research has found that when a goal is coming from one’s own motivations rather than being put forth by another person, people are more likely to keep the necessary drive to achieve their goals.

The reason for doing process analysis and consistently looking at your improvement is to improve your performance in meaningful ways. Without keeping track of your progress, you may not even know if you are improving, and you won’t be able to tell which things are meaningful.

Are you delivering value to other people, both in your personal and professional life? The plethora of measures of internal achievement doesn’t say too much about the value that you are delivering. It is the process performance where you want to see constant improvements.

7. Make good use of your time.

It is important to use your time wisely. If you find yourself with the luxury of having some free time, don’t waste it in front of the television. Instead, manage your time effectively so you can make proper headway toward your goals.

It is imperative to develop effective strategies to balance any conflicting demands on your time. Take some time each morning to determine your most important tasks for the day, and create a plan to ensure they get accomplished.

8. Learn new skills.

When you stop to consider the things that you do each day, you probably don’t think about taking time to learn new skills. Living hectic lifestyles makes it seem daunting to learn new things, but you may be missing out personally and professionally.

Continuing to learn throughout our lives is essential for staying current in an ever-changing world. If you stop learning new skills, you may actually begin to move backward while the rest of the world is quickly moving forward. Those who consistently succeed are those who are best at learning new skills.

PR anon back – a cookbook is standard practice to promo a lifestyle blogger which we all know is MM’s ambition. Be like Gwyneth. In fact Gwyneth did a cookbook before she started Goop. This is no KP project MM is getting this from her US pr firm. Given she started it in January 2018 approx. 6 wks after announcement she planned this pre engagement with her firm. This is what she is after – using Harry to make her post Harry lifestyle influencer (fashion merching included) career

This makes complete sense. And then Kensington Palace had to promote it anyway given that she’s now a part of the royal family. Ugh…

this is so much BS I may gag. Why is there still a need for a community kitchen to feed Grenfell survivors 15 mths after the event? Assuming it sells the 150K copies needed to make the 250K the Foundation website says they expect that ain’t keeping this kitchen open 7 days a week for long. This is such a pr scam.

It’s so disappointing. People in the UK might buy it to support the Grenfell victims. People in the US will probably only buy it if they’re Meghan fans. The only person who truly wins is Meghan in this scenario since she has “HRH Duchess of Sussex” in a very, visible font on the cover with her picture.

The real goal should be helping these people get into permanent housing to help their families, not perpetuate their temporary living conditions.

Im half & half on Meg having a kid. I think a kid gives her lifelong publicity & attachment to the brf however having a kid will just be extra responsibility on her shoulders that she wont want to deal with while trying to carry out her post diana lifestyle. No doubt shes wanting one just to have a titled kid & grandson of the late Diana though. But I reckon IVF didnt work & the BRF say hell no to surrogacy

I’m not convinced she really wants a kid. After today, I’m sure she sure as hell loves seeing her name in print on that cookbook though.

OMG, she convinced some hapless charity to put together an expensive cookbook, took credit for the whole thing, wrote a THREE PAGE foreword because she thinks she’s Anthony Bourdain, and is now hosting a COOKING SHOW in KP, just like the one she pitched to HGTV with Lindsay.

This is hilarious, I’ve never seen a royal so obviously use a charity as a vanity project. This woman is amazing.

The foreword…OMG.

“Keeping the global spirit of community alive…” LOLOLOLOL. She can’t just sponsor a charity cookbook, she has to have some grandiose mission behind it.

The word salad is EPIC!!! A “Passport on a Plate…” I’m dying.

BTW, that’s the paragraph that allows her to spend half the foreword talking about herself, including laying out her entire resume in one paragraph.

Seriously, six out of fourteen full paragraphs (I’m counting the one-sentence anecdotes separated by asterisks as one paragraph) are about her, and FIVE paragraphs start with “I” – “I was setting in,” “I recently watched,”  “I asked,” “I have a lifelong interest,”  and “I’ve spent many years.

I haven’t stopped laughing. THIS is why I have a blog following this woman. I wake up on Monday morning already missing my weekend and dreading the first day of the week like Garfield the Cat, and then I see something like this in my notifications. Holy hell. “Passport on a Plate…” LOLOLOLOLOLOL.

So her secrect visits have been for a photoshoot to go along with a cookbook. If all the profits weren’t going to the Grenfell community I would be side eyeing this book.

Yes this was a vist or two for the photos. One Kate striped shirt, one white button down that’s actually unbuttoned inappropriately. This reminds me of her India visit.

Submitted: Word salad! LITERALLY #wordsallad

anonymoushouseplantfan:

Sweet salty pickled cheetos! Wakey wakey Houseplantfan. It’s a COOKBOOK! Her big charity unveil is a FRIGGIN COOKBOOK and her contribution is a photoshoot and a 3-page FORESALAD excuse for a foreword. THREE PAGES of word salad ABOUT HERSELF!

LOL Omg you couldn’t make this underwhelming shit up. Not to mention the proceeds go to, “help support communities through cooking and sharing food” That is the shadiest excuse for an explanation as to where the profits will go I’ve seen in a long time. And slapped RIGHT on the cover of the book. So the money will go to mentally and physically scarred people without permanent housing cooking? Okay Meg. Cool. LOL. ½ assed doesn’t even cover this wreckage.

Oh, and another personal favourite of mine. On every freaking page, there’s this, “Copyright: HRH The Duchess of Sussex. Must be accompanied by the following credit…” etc featured prominently. She copyright-stamped all 3 word salad pages. Shit. You. Not. That’s so petty. Normally the © is spelled out on the last page, for any foreword ©s I’ve seen in my academic lifetime. And they’ve been sparse. Because, wow how increadibly petty and in this case more Tig™ than ROYAL. And also note the scathing IRONY of a person who used to take enormous copyright infringement liberties with her Tig™ and Instagram, now DonaldTrumping™©® herself on every itty bitty thing that comes out of her. THIS IS SO AMUSING!  LOL

(KUWTBD has the full 3 pages up btw)

Mio posted al three pages too. I wonder if Meghan will sue him?

I’m baffled by the purpose of this project. At first I thought that the money would go to the survivors to help then relive their life, but, no. It’s going to the kitchen so it can expand to seven days a week and to similar projects. Isn’t the ultimate goal to have people NOT need the kitchen because they have their homes? Are the Grenfell survivors still living in hotels? If so, shouldn’t they be helping them to move into homes? Are they expecting to stay homeless forever? Is that why they need the community kitchen open every day? Shouldn’t that be a national scandal?

The cookbook thing has me really conflicted. On one hand, if done right, it could’ve been a great bonding and community building exercise for the women in the kitchen (MM excluded) and take their minds off the tragedy. But we know that’s not the case here. You’re right about the cookbook economics as NYT had a recent article on its unprofitablility (in fact most of them LOSE money). She’s behaving like a celeb who has a PR campaign to push and not a charitable royal. And that’s sickening.

anonymoushouseplantfan:

Oh, I’m sure it was a great bonding exercise for the women.

You’ve got to invest in the world, you’ve got to read, you’ve got to go to art galleries, you’ve got to find out the names of plants. You’ve got to start to love the world and know about the whole genius of the human race. We’re amazing people.

Vivienne Westwood (via quotemadness)

Isn’t the ironly just perfectly seasoned when Meg in shouring large script copyrights ever single page HRH Duchess of Sussex and then goes on to use a tossed salad made up of other people’s words, that is, when she’s not talking about herself? The example of Karin Schwier’s “Breaking Bread and Building Connection”, which also had to do with community outreach programmes (In Canada!), is just so laughable. SHE COPYRIGHTED THIS SHIT? I’m flabbergasted by the gall and balls of this woman. Truly.
