Margot Robbie has revealed the full title for her Birds of Prey spinoff.

Robbie has shared on Instagram the title page of Christina Hodson’s script for Birds of Prey, which includes a handwritten addition, revealing the name is Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn). The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed this is the official title and not just the star having some fun by riffing off of Michael Keaton’s 2014 Oscar-winning movie Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance).

Newcomer Ella Jay Basco is in negotiations to land the last major role, Cassandra Cain, in Warner Bros.’ Harley Quinn spinoff, “Birds of Prey.”

Margot Robbie is back as Quinn with Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Jurnee Smollett-Bellon board as Huntress and Black Canary, respectively. Ewan McGregor will play the film’s villain and Rosie Perez will portray Gotham City police detective Renee Montoya.

Cathy Yan is directing the pic with Robbie producing, along with Sue Kroll and Bryan Unkeless.

In the new film, Robbie, Winstead, and Smollett-Bell team up to protect Cain’s character when she comes across a diamond belonging to McGregor’s Black Mask, a kingpin in Gotham City’s criminal underworld.

In DC Comics, Cain is the daughter of assassins David Cain and Lady Shiva, and is deprived of speech and human contact during her childhood as conditioning to become the world’s greatest assassin. She eventually befriends Bruce Wayne and goes on to become Batgirl. It is unknown whether the Batgirl element will be included in this storyline as WB is already developing a “Batgirl” movie.

Birds of Prey is set to bow on Feb. 7, 2020.

Warner Bros. has made their decision on the roles of Huntress and Black Canary in their next anticipated DC movie Birds of Prey, coming out on Feb. 7, 2020: Fargo and 10 Cloverfield Lane actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead has won the role of Huntress while Underground actress Jurnee Smollett-Bell will play Black Canary. They join Margot Robbie who reprises her Suicide Squad role of Harley Quinn in a Gotham that isn’t protected by Batman.

Margot Robbie’s ‘Birds of Prey’ Gets 2020 Release Date

The DC film will open Feb. 7 2020, the studio announced Monday. Margot Robbie reprises her Suicide Squad role as Harley Quinn, with Cathy Yan directing. The female-centered teamup movie will screen in IMAX.

The studio has been testing actresses to star opposite Robbie as Black Canary and Huntress.  A Wrinkle in Time’s Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Underground’s Jurnee Smolett-Bell and Hidden Figures star Janelle Monae are among those in the running to play Black Canary, sources told The Hollywood Reporter last week. For Huntress, stars in contention include The Leftovers’ Margaret Qualley, 10 Cloverfield Lane’s Mary Elizabeth Winstead and How I Met Your Mother’s Cristin Milioti.

Black Canary, Huntress, Cassandra Cain, and Renee Montoya will join Harley Quinn’s girl gang in the Margot Robbie film “Birds of Prey,” TheWrap has exclusively learned.

Robbie will produce “Birds of Prey” and reprise her “Suicide Squad” character, Harley Quinn. The film is centered around a revolving group of female heroes and villains, individuals with knowledge of the project tell TheWrap.

In addition, TheWrap has learned that the villain in “Birds of Prey” will be a Batman comics villain who has never before appeared on the big screen.

“Birds of Prey” will be produced by Kroll & Co Entertainment’s Sue Kroll and Clubhouse Pictures’ Bryan Unkeless, as well as Robbie.
