‘Birds of Prey:’ Black Canary, Huntress, Cassandra Cain, Renee Montoya

justiceleague:

Black Canary, Huntress, Cassandra Cain, and Renee Montoya will join Harley Quinn’s girl gang in the Margot Robbie film “Birds of Prey,” TheWrap has exclusively learned.

Robbie will produce “Birds of Prey” and reprise her “Suicide Squad” character, Harley Quinn. The film is centered around a revolving group of female heroes and villains, individuals with knowledge of the project tell TheWrap.

In addition, TheWrap has learned that the villain in “Birds of Prey” will be a Batman comics villain who has never before appeared on the big screen.

“Birds of Prey” will be produced by Kroll & Co Entertainment’s Sue Kroll and Clubhouse Pictures’ Bryan Unkeless, as well as Robbie.

Aquaman reveals first look at the exotic Fisherman King

In this scene, King Orm (Patrick Wilson, not shown) has gone to the Fisherman King (played by Djimon Hounsou, that guy with the trident — and more on that in a minute) to enlist his help to declare war on the ocean-polluting surface world. There’s also the Fisherman Queen (Natalia Safran) and Princess (Sophia Forrest) on the left, and a royal guard on the right. Though you can’t tell in this shot, all of them have tails instead of legs.

“After the fall of Atlantis, some of the kingdoms evolved and some devolved,” explains producer Peter Safran. “This is one that evolved. This is a kingdom that’s primarily artistic and cerebral, with poets and philosophers.”

‘Ms. Marvel’ creator G. Willow Wilson to write ‘Wonder Woman’ comic for DC

dcmultiverse:

“I’m delighted to be writing such an iconic character as Wonder Woman and to be working with DC once again,” Wilson said in a statement. “With more than 75 years of history, Wonder Woman has a wealth of backstory and drama to draw from, and I look forward to putting a spin on Diana and her supporting cast that’s both new, yet familiar. It’ll be a challenge to do her justice, but I like a challenge and can’t wait to get started.”

According to a tweet, she will be taking over in December with art by

Cary Nord.

Margot Robbie is looking to cast diverse ‘Birds of Prey’ leads, confirms Harley Quinn will have a new costume (exclusive)

dcmultiverse:

Margot Robbie worked hard to get Cathy Yan as director for Birds of Prey, which marked the first time a non-white, female filmmaker had been hired to direct a DC movie.

Now the Harley Quinn actress has confirmed to Yahoo Movies, during an interview about her new movie Terminal, that she will be putting just as much effort into ensuring her co-leads are just as diverse.

“Yep, yes exactly, real life isn’t so one specific image,” Robbie said. “We’ve got to reflect that onscreen.”

OMG Yes! I just dig you so much more for mentioning Batman’s detecitve “skillz”. That side of him’s almost completely lost in the movies, sadly. (Tim Burton prob kept most of that element in.) Which, y’know, when your only “superpower” among a motley crew of aliens & mutants is basically being rich… your other, more cerebral, qualities would come in handy. Anyway, thanks for the covers & link! :) I mean… Brian Bolland’s WW #72 cover? It spawned the male superheroes’ pose! Did NOT know that.

Thanks!

Hah – that gif… For a sec I was half expecting Captain Wales to break out his inner mockney and go “Meghan. Meg… M… Oi! OI! Meg!” the security guard (?) in white in the middle doing the dude version of clutching pearls. That’s a gold gif! H/M aside. What’s your all-time favourite comic and why? I get that this might be hard, esp if you’re REALLY into different artists/time periods. But anywho.. If you’ve got more than one, feel free to get a list together :) If you’ve got the time.

Pearl clutching is right! I love the way he’s sidestepping to his right too!

I stopped reading comics regularly back in 2001-2002, and there are a lot of good stories that I haven’t read. Off hand, the one that comes to mind is probably Grant Morrison’s JLA, (volume 1) issues 1-4, particularly number 3 since it’s Batman alone against the Hyperclan. It works so well because it highlights Batman’s detective abilities.

There are probably others, but that is just what comes to mind right now.

Also, I always loved Brian Bolland’s Wonder Woman covers.

And this cover for Spider-Woman:

And this Spider-Woman story about the man who couldn’t die unless he found someone willing to die with him. (I always liked it since I read it as a kid.)

That’s all I can think of offhand.

Breaking News: Spielberg Enters the World of DC with “Blackhawk” | DC

justiceleague:

Fresh on the heels of Ready Player One (which features cameo appearances by Batman, Harley Quinn, Batgirl and more), Steven Spielberg is ready to dive into the DC Universe proper with Blackhawk, a just-announced feature film from Spielberg, Amblin Entertainment and Warner Bros. Pictures based on the classic DC series about a squadron of WWII-era pilots. Blackhawk, which Spielberg is hoping to direct, will be his first featured centered around characters from the DC Universe.

In announcing the film, Warner Bros. Pictures Group Chairman Toby Emmerich said, “We are so proud to be the studio behind Steven Spielberg’s latest hit, and are thrilled to be working with him again on this new action adventure. We can’t wait to see what new ground he will break in introducing Blackhawk to movie audiences worldwide.”

Lady Blackhawk better be in there. Just sayin’…

Cathy Yan Is Warner Bros’ Choice To Direct Margot Robbie In Next Harley Quinn Film

justiceleague:

Warner Bros and DC Entertainment have chosen Cathy Yan to be the director of an untitled girl gang movie, likely the next superhero film to be graced by Suicide Squad scene-stealer Harley Quinn, in the form of Margot Robbie. A deal has to be completed, but it is expected that Yan will become the second female filmmaker to join the DC club after Wonder Woman‘s Patty Jenkins, and the first female Asian director ever tapped to direct a superhero film.

Yan got the job over numerous well established male directors, and because she is taking this giant leap with just one small-budget indie movie under her belt. That would be Dead Pigs, a film that won the World Cinema Dramatic Award For Ensemble Acting at Sundance last January. Despite being a new talent, Yan’s presentation for Birds of Prey was exceptional, and Robbie held firm to her desire for this film to be directed by a woman.

‘Batgirl’ Movie Back On, Now With ‘Bumblebee’ Writer (Exclusive)

justiceleague:

Two months after Joss Whedon left the Batgirl movie project, the studio is moving ahead on developing a new movie project based on the DC Entertainment heroine.

Christina Hodson, who wrote the upcoming Transformers spinoff Bumblebee, has been tapped to pen a new script featuring Barbara Gordon, the daughter of Gotham City police commissioner James Gordon.

Hodson wrote the 2017 Warners thriller Unforgettable, which starred Rosario Dawson and Katherine Heigl, and has been a player in a couple of writers rooms, Transformers (which led to her nabbing the Bumblebee gig) and Ology, the franchise Paramount is developing based on the YA fictional encyclopedias from Templar Publishing.
