Kate’s crowds were bigger. Someone had comparison pics up.
They still got a lot of people. One thing I noticed is that a ton of kids were pulled from schools. Several were interviewed, and if you look at Kate’s photos, you will notice that there was a higher proportion of grown-ups in their pics.
It is thought that the royal couple welcomed teenagers – Lily Rice, Junior Frood and Siena Castellon – into their home to praise them for their inspirational work after being crowned Teen Heroes of 2018. Speaking to HELLO! after the meet-and-greet, 16-year-old Siena – who has supported other students with autism and learning difficulties – revealed: “It was such an honour and privilege to meet the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at Kensington Palace. They were both genuinely interested in my website, www.QLMentoring.com, which I created to support and mentor autistic students and students with learning disabilities.”
Of meeting the royals, she added: “The Duchess was especially interested in addressing autism stereotypes and was saddened to hear about the severity of the disability-related bullying I have experienced. She congratulated me for being a Diana Award holder and for currently serving on the National Youth Board, a role that has given me a national platform through which to share my disability-based bullying experience. They were both incredibly warm, supportive and encouraging. Meeting them was an awesome experience! They have inspired me continue to make a positive difference in my community.”
Sorry for the long absence, guys. Sadly, blogging will continue to be sporadic until after the US midterm elections. I have a ton of work to do until then and it’s a lot more important than royal anything. By the way, if you’re a United States reader, remember to go vote on November 6th!!!!
But I’m still pretty obsessive about the blog, so here are some thoughts on the past few weeks.
The boots came back! Kate wore her trusty Penelope Chilvers on her first post-maternity engagement. I thought this event was spot on. she looked casual but perfectly groomed and she was great with the kids (I loved the cup-holding Duchess). She just kind of stepped back and let the kids and the charity shine.
Meghan then wore some hideous leather skirt to Sussex. I’ve been bitching about Letizia’s tacky leather skirts for years, so I obviously hated this. Meghan is truly amazing, though. She managed to wrinkle leather, which I didn’t think was possible. This is also her third nearly-identical green ensemble.
Then Kate wore an Erdem dress I actually liked. We must be entering end times. I love that the dress was inspired by the Queen. That (and the POC plaid) was a nice touch. I liked the plum pumps and clutch, but hated the earrings (which were also Erdem, so I still get to say that I hated something Erdem).
That dress outglammed Meghan’s fug black Givenchy in every single way. Same thing happened at Eugenie’s wedding with Kate’s semi-recycled raspberry dress outshining Meghan’s maternity funeral-wear.
I see a lot of Kate fans taking the “real queens fix each other’s crowns” high road on twitter. I think that’s partly because they are genuinely nice people (far nicer than me!), and partly because this is not a competition at this point.
Eugenie’s wedding was lovely and heartwarming. The groom, was too cute and the bride was gorgeous. I loved the colors (the tiara had emeralds!), absolutely adored the unusual floral arrangements (chinese lanterns! York roses! Blue thistles!), appreciated all the details honoring Eugenie’s family and heritage, and enjoyed the nods to their charity endeavors. Andrew hovering around like a mother hen was adorable, and Fergie and Bea looked gorgeous. Fergie’s carousel party looked like a lot of fun. It was heads and shoulders above the über-basic Pinterest wedding the Sussexes put up.
And speaking of, this how the Sussexes showed up in Australia. They look like a hot mess. Is it me, or is Harry’s bald spot huuuuuuge now?
I still can’t believe they are being this irresponsible, but this is Meghan to a T. She’s on a schedule and she won’t let anything, not even her baby’s health, stand between her and her goal.

I feel like this argument they had or the tension they had has been lingering for a while (Nine of Wands Rx). Like this was a repetitive conversation they’ve already had before. An old wound that’s popped up again and them both being very stubborn about it, not wanting to compromise, (Nine of Wands Rx) and make a decision on who was right/who’s way they should go (Two of Wands/Justice/Two of Pentacles).
I feel this was related to work as wellorsomething Meghan, (since the two cards are both fire cards and she’s all over this spread) wanted to push that wasn’t allowed to go through (Ace of Wands/Three of Wands). I think she had some plans (Three of Wands) to announce something (Knight of Cups/Eight of Wands/Moon), probably the pregnancy (HP/Moon/Page of Cups Rx) or some other project/charity she’s working with right before Eugenie’s wedding and that was nipped in the bud (Seven of Swords Rx). Why?It was simply an unworkable plan and when she got confronted with it and told that the plan she had just was not gonna work basically (Four of Cups Rx), once she realized that she got mad and defensive asf (Seven of Swords Rx/Seven of Wands Rx/Devil/Eight of Cups Rx).
She felt Harry didn’t want her to move forward (Eight of Cups Rx) but felt she had no choice but to sit there and shut up and smile, since the cameras were there and it was Eugenie’s wedding (Eight of Cups Rx).

She probably also didn’t tell Harry about her plans (Moon/HP) and that just happened to be around the time he found out about it (Seven of Swords Rx).
I think this could have had something to do with pregnancy but more so work (Page of Pentacles) and her wanting to come out and releases something regarding her work and charities and stuff (Page of Wands/Three of Pentacles), probably some communal thing she’s working on with a group of people once again (Three of Pentacles). Regardless, she was angry (Devil) and got defensive and felt like everyone was judging her and criticizing her too harshly on this project (Seven of Wands Rx). Catherine probably wasn’t too fond of it either since Devil and Page of Pentacles are both earth signs. Scratch that, probably either Catherine and Harry or Catherine and William and Harry were against it, now that I think of it (Three of Pentacles).
This rejection is making MM angry and making her act like a drama queen over it (Strength/Page of Cups Rx). This rejection (Page of Cups Rx) made her moody at the wedding and not want to be there (Eight of Cups Rx) but like I said before had no choice but to stay and pretend to be happy and push that happy image (Knight of Cups) which is probably why they were much more touchy-feely leaving (literally..Eight of Wands) (Knight of Cups).
This plan not going through is affecting money as well because of this plan not going through she’s trying to hold onto all her money and possessions as much as she can (Four of Pentacles) and balance out her spending for the time being (Two of Pentacles). Also her deciding if she wants to go on the tour or not I’m guessing since Two of Wands if a travel card (Two of Wands/Justice). Do I think that will last long…heck nah.
Some delay around the tour regarding something (Knight of Wands Rx/Six of Swords) or maybe this tour is giving her stress because she is going to be burnt out by it.

Now there’s been some talk over the tension between W&K and H&M at the wedding, specifically between Kate and Meghan as seen in Wempress’s post on the H&M wedding tension . Pulled cards to see how each feel individually about each other and this is what I got.

I’m guessing this stemming from all the love Kate has been getting at engagements more recently and more coverage compared to Meghan, I say rightfully so but that’s just my opinion. She’s upset with the fact that she’s had to struggle and had some much more difficulty than Kate (Mountain) to get the public’s love and attention and support (Heart) and it’s been so easy for Catherine (Woman Rx). She feels like Catherine is stopping her success (Garden Rx/Woman Rx) and almost the attitude as in if Catherine wasn’t here, they would love me. Feeling like basically if Catherine wasn’t so freaking awesome and beloved, she would have that spot. I feel like Meghan causes problems at public events (Garden Rx) and Catherine is shying away from her because of that (Woman Rx/Stork).
Meghan feels less important around Catherine which eats away at her quietly (Mice Rx/Tree). Catherine is also probably distant from Meghan (Key Rx) because Meghan isn’t all the way upfront and honest with her (Book/Key Rx) and Catherine has issues with that (Mice Rx). Meghan also feels like she talks about her and gossips about her as well (Birds/Mice Rx).
Meghan also feels like Catherine isn’t going to be loyal to her (imagine thinking Catherine isn’t loyal to anybody)and expected Catherine and William to be much more open and friendly with her than they were (Moon/Cross/Clouds/Dog Rx). She wanted them (Moon) to be supportive and help her out with all the drama she’s been going through (Cross/Clouds), cause you know the world revolves around her..smh, and feels like they should feel bad for that (Fox Rx/Clouds), typically Leo behavior. She’s feels like Catherine’s out to get her lol. Like Catherine doesn’t want her to succeed and do well for some reason (Dog Rx/Fox Rx). Feels like Catherine is a fraud and a liar (Fox Rx)..lol who am I reading a 37 year old or a 5 year old? Good luck convincing the world this cupcake is such a hater of you Meghan.
Catherine sees Meghan as someone who is very independent (Tower) and intelligent. She feels Meghan is very smart and wise and has lots of knowledge (Snake). She still feels like Meghan can be selfish and is very aware Meghan has a sense of envy or rival-ness about her and views her as a competitor (Snake). She also thinks Meghan is sneaky. Charming and smart but sneaky as well (Snake). Catherine’s main issue with Meghan I think are the issues she gives the firm (Letter Rx/Tower) and how she communicates with everybody. Catherine views Meghan as just frustrating to deal with (Letter Rx). Not necessarily, dislike but just frustrating to have to deal with and work with since she isn’t really a team player and again, can be very selfish (Letter Rx/Tower/Snake). Catherine really doesn’t want to have issues with her lol. She really has a kind heart and isn’t really picking for fights especially since she sees her as family now (Lily/Bear). Kate just wants there to be peace between them (Snake/Lily). The thing with Meghan is she wants to be #1 and wants to be the head of the family in the sense Kate is (Lily/Bear). Meaning, the most recognizable and well-roundly liked other than the Queen and Phillip and the heirs (Willy and Charlie). Catherine doesn’t really like that because it’s against tradition and that protocol wouldn’t allow the 6th in line to be pushed more and get more attention like Kate gets. Meghan wants to be the lead if not 2nd lead singer in the group and have everyone else as the backup singers, there for support and when not necessary but not overshadowing her, if you get me (Lily/Bear).
Catherine doesn’t like how materialistic Meghan is and how much leverage she puts on possessions (Fish Rx/Ring Rx). She feels like Meghan should be more dutiful to the country (Ring Rx) and less focused on money/wealth (Fish Rx/Sun). She doesn’t want their relationship to just be based on the fact they both married into a wealthy family (Fish/Ring) and wants it to be real and innocent (Child) in the sense of it being a relationship that has pure intentions not one out for convenience of business (Fish) and fame (Sun). Catherine is also tired of arguing with her (Ring Rx) and it going in circles. She doesn’t like the competitive energy Meghan has towards her (Sun/Whip).
Catherine is ready for this to be over (Scythe/Coffin). She is tired of the bs and at this point is done with it and doesn’t care anymore to fix it or anything. Like if they start to butt heads Catherine is at the point where she will just exit the building lol (Crossroads Rx). She’s made the decision (Crossroads Rx) to not be provoked anymore (Bouquet Rx) by the constant attention Meghan keeps needing from her (Bouquet Rx/Star) and is letting go (Anchor) and made the quick decision to not focus on it anymore (Scythe/Coffin).
She also doesn’t like how she’s affecting Harry (Man Rx/Clover Rx/House Rx) and how wacky and all over the place they are (Clover Rx/House Rx). The lack of stability irritates her (House Rx) and Harry’s personality is changing (Ship Rx) from this lucky, happy go lucky man (Clover Rx) to this anxiety ridden, emotionally stuck Harry (Ship Rx/Clover Rx). She wants them to move past that and get out of that lack of balance and stability phase they are in or energy they have right now (Rider).

I did a graph of Harry’s engagements for mental health since the launch of Heads Together after receiving a message asking if his work in the area had tailed off. @avidroyalfan– one of the few people in the fandom who loves graphs and data as much as me- asked if I could do one including Kate and William so voila. I’ve gone hella gender normative so Kate’s pink, William’s blue and Harry’s black because it looked better next to the other colours. This graph shows the number of mental health focused engagements completed each month since the launch in May 2016:
NB. Some things to consider: Their spike in engagements in March/April 2017 came about due to the London Marathon. Kate was off work with Hyperesmesis Gravidarum in September 2017 and on maternity leave from late March until early October 2018. Harry married in May 2018 and had a reduced programme that month.

I really like the headpiece itself. I think with the dress and the bag it’s a bit matchy matchy. Even for Kate, who loves matchy matchy. It’s just very blue. But I like the piece and I’m all for this new experimentation she’s doing with her headpieces. I would love that to continue. Anyway, she has indeed worn that outfit before, without the hat thing. Notice how she connects personally, but doesn’t go overboard. Total of 4 lines mentioning her, but does so in relation to the choice and the work she has been and is doing. It’s fairly professional tbh.
Re: Brad getting sued. I genuinely think that Brad actually really cared about the cause in New Orleans, but again, as someone who was a nonprofit professional for years before going corporate is that nonprofit work is WORK. It’s so hard to get right. People don’t expect that they can step in as an investment banker or doctor for a day, but somehow ladling soup for 4 hours automatically makes you a poverty expert. (Which is why I side eye 98% of celeb charity work!) People get get Masters and PhD degrees to go into jobs that will likely never pay them more like 70k. The celebrities that do the best are ppl who just donate and advocate with their own passionate stories to bring public awareness, not make it about THEM or their “ideas” but gracefully let the experts do their thing. I am sure Brad thought his idea to combine his passion for fancy sustainable green architecture built by star architects in Nola was great, but in his excitement and hubris forgot that the point of the aid he was giving the community is not about him or his architecture boner. His project should have never involved piloting concepts for sustainable housing when the goal was to provide those who had lost property with functional, cost efficient, solidly constructed houses quickly. Now we have this mess with all that money wasted. Contrast that with Mariska Haritgay’s incredible work for sexual assault victims through Joyful Heart Foundation. As the public face of it, she tells a compelling story of how deeply she connects to the issue and routinely advocates for it. Another great example of this is Christy Turlington, who almost died in childbirth then went and got a master’s degree at Columbia to devote her efforts to reducing maternal mortality internationally.
Anyway, to bring this back to this whole mess… what I’m saying is that even with the best intentions and true passion like Brad, usually celebs who don’t know their role as a public figurehead and try to get into programming without knowledge run into trouble. It’s incredibly difficult to do charity right. While it remains to be seen how impactful Kate is, what I do appreciate about her is how involved she is in the things that have always defined her life – art, children. She doesn’t overstate her importance and while that might be seen as lazy or not splashy, I appreciate that she defers to others and her personal involvement and level of activity seems to come from a genuine place. MM’s challenge is to come up with a cause she’s truly devoted to and can speak well to, but with so many facades who knows who she really is?

Yes, exactly. I really think that the fact that Kate brings in experts and defers to them is fantastic. So many people come in with the best of intentions and end up with something completely unworkable and sometimes even downright harmful.
I think she does too. Yes, like that anon noted, the behind-the-scenes people do a lot of work, but you only have to look at the contrast between Kate’s sport engagements and Meghan’s to see that the royal has a lot to do with the success of those events.
That intro to the exhibition was beautiful. The Huffington Post project was great. Her Nook Appeal has been highly successful. Heads Together is good. The fact that she takes her shoes off and runs and throws tennis balls is fantastic.
I just wish she did MORE of it, you know. Love Lola Heart just tweeted out how many times Kate worked for EACH and, I hate to say it, but it sounds a little bit skimpy. I think she still contributed mightily and made a big difference to their fundraising.
It’s not horrible. She repped EACH about once every six months, which is decent-ish, but, imo, they should be showing up at this patronages at least twice a year, writing letters/releasing videos/doing speeches at last twice a year, and doing at least one big fundraiser every two years.
“I feel like there’s a lot of Catherine Quinn’s influence in this” – How much exactly do think Quinn can do? She’s still an employee. All I see is Kate following the natural course and maturing in her role, finding her path. I agree they exaggerated on the compliments and totally believe royals are most build up images, but it seems you are always trying to give part of Kate’s credit to someone else, as this person was the mind behing her, and I don’t see you doing it with the others. William has been praised a lot lately and I don’t remember to see you including his staff on this. Not a long ago, you were still giving Harry the credit to have at least some genuine interest in his things, same with Diana, and now seems to have some hope of Meghan doing something right with RF help. You also easily say women like Chelsy and Jecca are good and very dignified based on their CVs. Sorry, but I have the impression you fall a bit on stereotypes and think Kate is not capable on her own bc she doesn’t fit the profile. Of course you don’t have to like her nor be impartial, as you state about Meghan, I just wanted to point something that is bothering me.
Thanks for sending this in! I didn’t realize people would interpret my post as a slight towards Kate. I don’t think mentioning Quinn takes away any of Kate’s glory. I think picking employees is a huge part of Kate’s job (and Will’s too) and I was generally disappointed in Rebecca Deacon and the rest of the KP Peyton Place gang. I feel they focused more on glamour and pr tricks than on substance and that did Kate a disservice. I feel picking Quinn was a great choice on Kate’s part and it signaled, as you said, that she’s maturing in her role.
I don’t give William’s team that much credit because he’s basically doing the same stuff he did before, just more of it and in better clothes. That doesn’t take a ton of team input, it just takes a stepping up of the work ethic and having more respect for the role. Personally, I do believe that Will’s change was mostly due to having a wake-up call during the Grenfell visit and suddenly realizing that what he does is actually important. I think his team is just doing what they always did, just more of it because he’s more motivated.
Kate is doing something different, bigger in scope, and more creative, and, I think, that does require a team. You can see the seeds of this project in the mental health issue she did for the Huffington Post. I think Kate looked at that and realized that she wanted to do something similar, but more focused on actual change and not just raising awareness (and also more focused on children). I think she also realized that she would need a more sophisticated team to carry this out. Then she did what any competent executive would do–go hire someone who could get the stuff done.
(I feel like I should mention Heads Together here because people probably think this solo project is more similar to HT than to the Huffington Post project. I think HT was a great project, but it’s an umbrella organization providing support to individual charities and that’s an easier proposition than the early childhood project, imo.)
Like I said, I don’t think crediting Quinn takes away any of Kate’s credit. I think Harry is probably the best example of how a team will do a great job BUT ONLY AS LONG AS THE PRINCIPAL KEEPS HIS EYE ON THE BALL. Harry basically had the same people during his “Hero Harry” and “Hollywood Harry” periods and look at the difference in his engagements, his press, and his interactions. He used to be the one who would get glowing charity coverage and now he’s getting Clooney vacation articles and “How Meghan Makes Him Feel Like A Man” headlines.
I’m not sure what the DoSex are doing. Frankly, this is what I was expecting Harry and Meghan to do this month–big charity launches that fit their individual interests, including a big solo project for Meghan. I’m very happy that Will and Kate are stepping up their mental health and children’s health work and creating these initiatives, but where are the Harkles?
William has his 7th house (marriage/partnership) lord (Mercury) conjunct Venus, the planet of love. The dude married for love. Get over the Jecca thing.
I think the hardcore sugars are here to stay, and I expect they will get more and more rabid as Meghan flounders. That has been my experience so far.
I suspect the tour will be meh, but I doubt the media will report that she “needs major help.” Her problem isn’t that she can’t show up and shake hands. Her problem is that the planned tour stops mind-numbingly boring, the clothes are repetitive, monochrome and ill-fitting, and all she does is hold hands with Harry and pose. Yes, there’s always a chance that there will be a major disaster, but I doubt that as they will be surrounded by people whose main job is to keep that from happening. I think their main problem is boredom. Meghan is by far the most repetitive royal I have ever seen, and I used to bitch about Kate’s lace dresses nonstop.
When I think of what made Will and Kate’s first tour (to Canada) amazing, I remember how Kate picked Prince Edward Island based on the Anne of Green Gables books, and how professional she looked in her navy Smythe blazer (Canadian brand!) as they boarded the plane. The Cambridges positively embraced the official events, attending a citizenship ceremony, Canada Day, and the Calgary Stampede. Kate looked amazing in her recycled engagement dress and red maple leaf hat and she rocked the maple leaf brooch like nobody’s business. She wore Canadian Erdem freaking everywhere (tbh, they weren’t that bad back then), posed with Anne of Green Gables, and even dressed up like a Calgary cowboy.
Yes, they had cute couple moments at the helicopter training, the French cooking classes in Quebec, and the sea dragon race, but what I remember most about this tour was that it was a celebration of Canada, including its natural beauty, history, and diversity. LOL, and the “Marilyn moment,” of course.
Kate launched her tour with a bang, with sources telling the DM that she’s personally chosen Prince Edward’s Island because she loved the Anne books. I remember this causing quite a stir at the time and this is still one my favorite parts of their Canada tour.
It’s a stark contrast to the Harkle schedule release, which left people scratching their heads as to why they’d picked some of the stops and why they were skipping out on Invictus. I’ve been wondering why I have such a strong feeling that this tour will be a dud, and I think the underwhelming release of the schedule is part of it. This does not feel like a celebration of Australia, or event the Commonwealth. It feels like a celebration of Meghan and Harry.
It allowed her to skip out on most of the family drama and competition rumors. It worked out pretty well for her.
I know I bitch about the long maternity leave (by US standards, I know), but it really is well planned. She bookended it with a royal wedding and ToC/AirForce appearances in May/June and she’ll come back in October to Eugenie’s wedding and a diplomatic reception. It subtly, but effectively, puts her in a completely different level than Meghan.
Yes, I realize that, and I see how the big wedding and splashy tour feeds into that. But I’m still baffled by the Commonwealth Youth Ambassador title and the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust and the canopy. His “big” fundraisers have been for Sentebale and his wedding charities were small and many of them non-UK.
Yes, it all looks like the same thing Will and Kate did, but it’s very different in substance. Will and Kate did a lot of fundraising for their foundation during their first year and then they went on to establish a strong charity base in the UK. They built a strong platform and developed their own institutions. Harry is not doing that. Heck, he’s compromising his strong Invictus platform to go plant trees for the canopy.
William is building relationships with the UK business community. Harry is merching for Givenchy, and sucking up to the Clooneys and Lin-Manuel. Kate is extending her patronage to legacy UK museums, while Meghan is selling Jess’ crap Canadian brands.
I don’t think he will be marginalized. I think he already is being marginalized with these non-UK “positions” and “events.” This is what they’ve traditionally done with all of their problem family members.
LOL, and I was bitching about a couple of hours at Invictus. This would be hundreds of thousands in taxpayer money. There were rumors that Doria had RPOs in LA too. I wonder if those were true too.
Yup. This chick gets whatever she wants and still complains. Nothing is good enough for her. Meanwhile, Kate really did suffer harassment for years.

I’d do the same. W&K should be concentrating more on their kids. When this begins breaking down, Harry should be the one with all the media pointed at him. His family tried to warn him, tried to get him to slow down and think. But he refused.
