“Meghan, in her Givenchy trouser suit, at the Famine Memorial” –  that’s golden!  I hope this description sticks around. And every time  Irish visit is mentioned MM to be known as “in her Givenchy trouser suit, at the Famine Memorial”.  Like Kate is still being dragged for pink coat on Ground Zero memorial (funny side note – Camilla wore a pink suit to Ground Zero in 2005, guess that’s where Kate got the idea https://www.cbsnews.com/pictures/royal-visit-ground-zero/ and absolutely noone cared or felt insulted by this shade of pink).

But what I find absolutely mind-blowing is Dior at RAF100. That’s just such a huge faux-pas. I’m not taking about the dress itself or black colour, overall MM looked fine.  But absolutely inappropriate. First, This sort of services in the bound-duty of BRF. They all wear uniforms to show their ranks. Men wear literally uniforms, royal ladies wear their most distinct uniform like outfit. It’s not by chance that after RAF100 everyone is talking that Kate has settled into uniform. Yes, she did and yes that’s how it should be. And then there is MM with hollywood glamoure in haut couture black dress.  Second, the price.  We don’t have so far the numbers, but I really hope that roaly reporters and bloggers pest Dior for the quotes on such bespoken.  My guess: the costs of the dress will easily surpass the combine costs of royal ladies outfits. That’s the Queen, 2 future Queens, Princess Royal, Countess Wessex.  What sort of arrogance MM must have to think that she’s worthy of that much! This brings to the third point, who paid for it? MM sugars are screaming that she has millions of her own.  Please! Total BS. Not even gonna entertain this notion. If Charles’ credit card pays for it, then why he allows such extravaganza? Personally, I don’t think Charles would approve the bills like that. My guess is that he gave them a budget, they have already blew it  long time ago. And this Dior is a freebie. Which is even less acceptable than millions spent on clothes.

Oh I hope the reporters will spin and spin and spin the reciepts.  And when push comes to shove how Charles will play it out?  What is worse for him? Acknowledge freebies which opens doors so many other freebies probes? Or let total sum of MM clothes+jewels be attributed to his allowance and basically label MM a gold-digger?

Thanks for sending this in! I’m very curious about how much that Dior cost.

newyorker:

“Game of Thrones” received twenty-two Emmy nominations today. In 2016, Clive James binge-watched the most addictive show on TV.

As for the top woman of the realm, the queen Cersei Lannister, she is a beautiful expression of arbitrary terror, combining shapely grace with limitless evil in just the right measure to scare a man to death while rendering him helpless with desire. She is Kundry and Lilith, Lulu and Carmen. She is Proust’s mother, who tormented him so much by neglecting to climb the stairs to kiss him good night that he spent his entire life writing a long novel in revenge. Superbly equipped by the cold edges of her classically sculpted looks to incarnate the concept of the femme fatale, Lena Headey beams Cersei’s radiant malevolence at such a depth into the viewer’s mind that she reawakens a formative disturbance: did my mother look after me because she loved me, or was she doing all that only because she had to?

Plotwise, Cersei can thus raise a long-running question: Must she behave dreadfully in order to protect her dreadful son Joffrey, the heir to the throne, or is she just dreadful anyway? Would we, in the same position, be sufficiently dreadful to protect our offspring from a richly deserved oblivion?

Oh heck yes getting involved in the activities is part of the job! But for some reason MM thinks this is just a “lets play dress up” job when it isnt. You dont get to pick and choose the events you go to. Royals are asked to attend. But if she chooses to only attend events where she doesnt have to do anything but dress up & pose for pics, people will tire of her rather quickly. I mean Kate is doing cupcake decorating blindfolded, played volleyball IN WEDGES, played field hockey in HEELS

anonymoushouseplantfan:

She’s just going to show up and pose.

This is why Kate is awesome.

video for IG Harry at very end – he looks so subdued.  DM comments are rough saying he has lost his spark, he is not the Captain of his soul anymore and a lot of comments on the CDAN blind about her yachting pics and video and Harry paying to shut it down.  It is amazing to see this for a member of the BRF.  Common knowledge that she was a pro.  Pity for Harry.  Also saying he did not know.  Sure KP will love a “he did not know” narrative.  Of course he knew.

Thanks for sending this in!

Two things: wagging a finger at a child is considered aggressive (I volunteer in a children’s hospital and we had basic etiquette training). You’re meant to do the stop motion with your full hand. It’s firm but not upsetting. Before meeting kids Harry should’ve had the same basic training. 2nd: A drag queen said the royals never blink not even when he went in drag to the palace. Posh Brits take everything in stride. K is doing that with MM. MM is a sideshow but K will just stay calm and carry on

Yep, Kate will be her normal self.

few comments on the IRE tour.  The reason royals go to IRE (PC goes at least twice each year) is to advance the reconciliation process.  It is hard for someone not familiar with the history to understand the bitterness and ambivalence towards reconciliation with the English especially. But since they share common challenges and a deeply integrated economy it is vital to both countries to move on.   PC and HM are admired because they have made serious efforts with some personal cost to advance this very important process.  Nothing Harry and Meghan did contributed to this effort.   Harry seemed unprepared several times. Meghan seemed more interested in posing.  The mistakes made were serious ones – a Brit  Duchess commenting on the politics of the Republic?   Harry ham fisted  insensitive remarks at the Memorial.  That was shocking as if none of his aides actually knew what caused almost 2 mil  deaths? The extravagant cost of her clothes. Shutting down high traffic tourist sites.

The only reason for this visit seems to have been to allow Markle to march around merching.  The novelty of the location perhaps getting her the media coverage that has been lagging.  The notion it was an “overseas” tour is absurd – people commute between the two islands for work.  It seems to me IRE got chosen cause she wanted an overseas tour  and no visa issues because there is no border between the UK and IRE.  A trip to the continent would have required visas for the American Duchess.

Thanks for sending this in!

Agree except on the visas for an American. Not true.

Meghan Markle displays flawless tour de couture during Dublin visit – but where were the Irish designers?

anonymoushouseplantfan:

“However, one obvious missing link in an otherwise flawless tour de couture was the glaring lack of Irish designers incorporated anywhere into her wardrobe. Wearing forest green for your first night just won’t suffice as flying the Irish fashion flag when you’ve displayed outfits worth over €10,000 over the course of 36 hours.”

At least someone noticed. I don’t know why she missed this incredibly obvious thing. It’s particularly glaring when she did local designers during her “regional tour” and the “Meghan Effect” was touted everywhere. Yes, they were all put forward by the London Fashion Council, but it’s not that hard to google for a local bag or necklace. Heck, the press was making lists for her.

It’s also going to look horrible if she “champions” Australian designers during Invictus.

I think May2011-Dec2011 was about 55K, but can’t find an article.

What we have so far ca. 500K. The missing 2 years and a half could be max 200K. Her totals for 7 years will be ca. 700K.

I’m afraid MM has already spent that. And wait till the end of the year.

Thanks for sending this in. I can’t find those years either. Funny because I could have sworn that they did this every single year. BTW, Kate’s entire Australia tour was 55k and I think they were counting repeats.

Nope. No Irish brands as of yet. And isn’t the tour kind of over now? It was basically all overpriced, “bespoke” ladida that looked like an insult to stuff sold at ZARA. She diiiiiid however do another Strathberry bag (with the plastic still on), I suppose she thought Scottish/Irishputato/potato, they’re all pale and ginger right. And did another “celtic” merch. Except, Strathberry is DESIGNED in Scotland, but manufactured in good ole Espania, like most “craft” leather products here.

anonymoushouseplantfan:

Well, Scotland isn’t Ireland by any stretch of the imagination. I don’t care how Celtic it may be. It’s a different country. They were also the only UK designer she wore, no?

The tour is over, but they may do a photo at the airport saying goodbye. I’m kind of shocked that there wasn’t even one Irish designer. I thought that was a given and the tabs and People were making lists of designers that she may choose.

Of course Kavanaugh is going to overrule Roe v. Wade. They’ve got four votes already who are willing to uphold a Texas law that was just a sham law intended to shut down abortion clinics. Kavanaugh is going to be the fifth. He has criticized Roe v. Wade. He said that it was a freewheeling decision. He wrote an opinion just last year that took a very aggressive posture, said that the Trump administration could literally imprison women to delay their ability to have an abortion… There’s two Republican senators—Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski—who claim to be pro-choice. And at the very least, they want to have deniability if they vote for Kavanaugh. But there’s no deniability here. This guy is the fifth vote to overrule Roe v. Wade, period.

‘Ms. Marvel’ creator G. Willow Wilson to write ‘Wonder Woman’ comic for DC

dcmultiverse:

“I’m delighted to be writing such an iconic character as Wonder Woman and to be working with DC once again,” Wilson said in a statement. “With more than 75 years of history, Wonder Woman has a wealth of backstory and drama to draw from, and I look forward to putting a spin on Diana and her supporting cast that’s both new, yet familiar. It’ll be a challenge to do her justice, but I like a challenge and can’t wait to get started.”

According to a tweet, she will be taking over in December with art by

Cary Nord.

‘Ms. Marvel’ creator G. Willow Wilson to write ‘Wonder Woman’ comic for DC

I was just on Meghan’s Mirror twitter page and Dior made a press announcement that her RAF100 outfit was indeed BLACK and was couture. And she wore two pairs of shoes from Paul Andrews (I’ve never heard of him) that are not even out yet! What’s up with the press releases? Is that normal for fashion designers to do with Kate and Sophie? And how about wearing items that are not out yet? More proof of merching or am I phishing?

anonymoushouseplantfan:

They are not supposed to do press releases or social media announcements. They are not supposed to use the royal family for press. They are doing it anyway.

David M is on this trip as the foreign policy advisor. He is a serious heavyweight in fp. They would send him to make sure the two stoners do not screw up and to watch them and report back. He does not travel with Harry and while Ireland is very important and a sensitive place my guess is the presence of MM is what got him this job. Bet he is not thrilled to be a babysitter. The foreign office must have been worried about screw ups to send him for damage control.

anonymoushouseplantfan:

Well, he got his work cut out for him.

How can I join this Meghan Fraudkle movement lol. I want my blog to be like yours.

Aaaargh! Maaaah Gaaah! I’m sorry you guys, but I’m about to break into hives from her excessive thrusting forth of chest and abdomen! My (ballet)dancer’s back hurts from watching her. Why does she do that? I thought she’d been a Yogi since like the age of 7? Lax pelvis or what?! It contributes to the tawdrification of her entire “air”, there are no clothes or stylists on earth who can rectify that. My GAAAAAH. If I were a designer of those “bespoke” clothes, I’d be self-flagellating right now.

anonymoushouseplantfan:

I think that’s meant to be a model walk.

I think this is the lifestyle she always wanted, with exclusive stylists and hairdressers carried around to make her glow for selling nothing less but herself (not a show, a movie, just herself). Her husband gives her the budget (no need of earning anything) and a recognised title. And he gets a “praised” woman that validates him and makes him believe he is a grownup man doing right by breaking the rules and protocols of his outdated world (the same world that supports and pays for everything).

anonymoushouseplantfan:

Yep.

What You Can Do About Trump’s Escalating Lies

robertreich:

As the political season heats up,
Trump is ramping up his lies through his three amplifiers: Fox News, rallies,
and Twitter.

According to The Fact
Checker’s database
, the average daily rate of Trump’s false or misleading claims is climbing.

The problem isn’t just the number
or flagrancy of the lies – for example, that Putin and the Russians didn’t intervene
in the 2016 election on behalf of Trump, or that the Mueller investigation is
part of a Democratic plot to remove him.

And it’s not just that the lies
are about big, important public issues – for example, that immigrants commit
more crimes than native-born Americans, or trade wars are harmless.

The biggest problem is the lies aren’t subject to the filters traditionally applied to presidential
statements – a skeptical press, experts who debunk falsehoods, and respected
politicians who publicly disagree.

The word “media” comes from the
term “intermediate” – that is, to come between someone who makes the news and
the public who receives it.

But Trump doesn’t hold press
conferences. He doesn’t meet in public with anyone who disagrees with him. He denigrates the mainstream press. And he shuns experts.

Instead, his lies go out to tens
of millions of Americans every day unmediated.

TV and radio networks simply rebroadcast his rallies, or portions of them.

At his most recent rally in Great
Falls, Montana, Trump made 98 factual statements.
According to the Washington Post’s fact checkers, 76 percent of them were
false, misleading or unsupported by evidence.

For example, Trump claimed
that “winning the Electoral College is very tough for a
Republican, much tougher than the so-called ‘popular vote,’ where people vote
four times, you know.”

The claim ricocheted across the
country even though countless studies have shown that Trump’s claims of
widespread voter fraud and abuse are simply not borne out by the facts
.

Meanwhile, over 50 million
Americans receive his daily tweets, which are also brimming with lies.

Recently, for example, Trump tweeted that Democrats were responsible for his administration’s policy
of separating migrant families at the border (they weren’t), and that “crime in
Germany is way up” because of migration (in fact, it’s down).

Around 6 million Americans
watch Fox News each day and relate what they see and hear to their friends and
relations.

Fox News is no longer
intermediating between the public and Trump. Fox News is Trump. Trump takes many of his lies from Fox News, and Fox News amplifies Trump’s lies.

Fox News’s Sean Hannity is one of
Trump’s de facto top advisers. Trump has
just appointed Bill Shine, the former number two at Fox News, as his deputy
chief of staff for communications.

No democracy can function under
a continuous bombardment of unmediated lies.

So what are we to do, other than
vote November 6 to constrain Trump?

First, boycott Fox News’s major
sponsors, listed here. Vote with your wallet and starve the
beast. Get others to join you.

Second, attend Trump’s rallies,
as distasteful as this may be. You’re entitled to attend. He is, after all, the
president of the entire country.

Organize and mobilize large
groups to attend with you. Once there, let your views about his lies be heard
and seen by the press. You can find out when and where his rallies will occur here.

Third, sign up for his tweets, and
respond to his lies with the simple: “b.s.” You can sign up here.

Fourth, write to Twitter and tell its executives to stop enabling Trump’s lies. Its contact information is here

In addition, as the Times’ Farhad Manjoo suggested recently, Twitter’s employees should be encouraged to
make a ruckus – as did Amazon workers who pushed the firm to stop selling
facial recognition services to law enforcement agencies, and Google employees
who pressured Google not to renew a Pentagon contract for artificial
intelligence.

Twitter defines its mission as
providing a “healthy public conversation.” Let them know that demagoguery isn’t
healthy.

Your vote on November 6 is the key,
of course.

But as the political season heats
up, Trump’s lies are heating up, too. And they will sway unwary voters.

So you need to be active now, before
Election Day – on behalf of the truth.

Behind Bars, Mentally Ill Inmates Are Often Punished For Their Symptoms

By some accounts, nearly half of America’s incarcerated population is mentally ill — and journalist Alisa Roth argues that most aren’t getting the treatment they need.

Roth has visited jails in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and Atlanta and a rural women’s prison in Oklahoma to assess the condition of mentally ill prisoners. She says correctional officers are on the “front lines” of mental health treatment — despite the fact that they lack clinical training.

“Most of [the correctional officers] will talk about how this is not what they signed up,” Roth says. “Most of them have not had much training in dealing with mental illness — or they’ve had none at all.”

Roth witnessed high-risk prisoners in solitary confinement or chained up or wearing restrictive jumpsuits — which tended to exacerbate the prisoners’ distress.

Therapy, when available, was often conducted under stressful conditions. Roth describes one session in the Los Angeles County jail that took place through the slots of a cell door — forcing the prisoner and therapist to yell to be heard.

“The entire [jail] tier can hear everything that you’re saying,” Roth says. “Especially in a place where showing any weakness can be really dangerous … people are particularly unlikely to disclose anything personal or her that would make them vulnerable.”

Roth chronicles her findings in the book, Insane: America’s Criminal Treatment of Mental Illness.
