Obviously not. I am, however, kind of awed by her ambition, daring, and immense self-centeredness. She met this guy, saw her chance, quit her job immediately, was engaged in like a year, spent millions of dollars of his dad’s money, was married a few months later, and is now pregnant and raiding his mom’s jewelry box. It’s truly amazing.
I don’t think she’s faking. I don’t think her famewhore self cares because she thinks this is her moment to shine on the world stage. Fetus health and safety be damned.
Sorry for the long absence, guys. Sadly, blogging will continue to be sporadic until after the US midterm elections. I have a ton of work to do until then and it’s a lot more important than royal anything. By the way, if you’re a United States reader, remember to go vote on November 6th!!!!
But I’m still pretty obsessive about the blog, so here are some thoughts on the past few weeks.
The boots came back! Kate wore her trusty Penelope Chilvers on her first post-maternity engagement. I thought this event was spot on. she looked casual but perfectly groomed and she was great with the kids (I loved the cup-holding Duchess). She just kind of stepped back and let the kids and the charity shine.
Meghan then wore some hideous leather skirt to Sussex. I’ve been bitching about Letizia’s tacky leather skirts for years, so I obviously hated this. Meghan is truly amazing, though. She managed to wrinkle leather, which I didn’t think was possible. This is also her third nearly-identical green ensemble.
Then Kate wore an Erdem dress I actually liked. We must be entering end times. I love that the dress was inspired by the Queen. That (and the POC plaid) was a nice touch. I liked the plum pumps and clutch, but hated the earrings (which were also Erdem, so I still get to say that I hated something Erdem).
That dress outglammed Meghan’s fug black Givenchy in every single way. Same thing happened at Eugenie’s wedding with Kate’s semi-recycled raspberry dress outshining Meghan’s maternity funeral-wear.
I see a lot of Kate fans taking the “real queens fix each other’s crowns” high road on twitter. I think that’s partly because they are genuinely nice people (far nicer than me!), and partly because this is not a competition at this point.
Eugenie’s wedding was lovely and heartwarming. The groom, was too cute and the bride was gorgeous. I loved the colors (the tiara had emeralds!), absolutely adored the unusual floral arrangements (chinese lanterns! York roses! Blue thistles!), appreciated all the details honoring Eugenie’s family and heritage, and enjoyed the nods to their charity endeavors. Andrew hovering around like a mother hen was adorable, and Fergie and Bea looked gorgeous. Fergie’s carousel party looked like a lot of fun. It was heads and shoulders above the über-basic Pinterest wedding the Sussexes put up.
And speaking of, this how the Sussexes showed up in Australia. They look like a hot mess. Is it me, or is Harry’s bald spot huuuuuuge now?
I still can’t believe they are being this irresponsible, but this is Meghan to a T. She’s on a schedule and she won’t let anything, not even her baby’s health, stand between her and her goal.
Oh, I bet she thinks this was perfect timing because now she will get tons of press for her tour.
Oh, I’m so sorry you went through that. I had a miscarriage after a bout of dengue fever, so I can’t even fathom someone taking this kind of risk. Heck, they must have begun TTC-ing immediately after they signed up for the Fiji tour. He’s an idiot and she’s totally nuts.
To me, it’s literally like that moment in The Ten Commandments where Moses hears from Nefertiri that Pharoah has decreed the first born shall die. And Moses’ reaction is that Pharoah had just called out his own punishment.
These two with their terrible timing don’t understand the ramifications of their actions.
She probably thinks it’s great that the pregnancy will bring more press attention to the games. She’s so self-centered that she doesn’t realize the attention should be on the athletes.
A conversation between The Princess Royal and the Duchess of Sussex on Friday at the wedding of Princess Eugenie suddenly makes a lot more sense following the news of her pregnancy.
On Friday morning, Royal Central reported that the Duchess of Sussex and Princess Anne exchanged in a lengthy and animated conversation in St George’s Chapel as they waited for the arrival of the bride.
So, yes, she told everyone AT THE WEDDING before the bride had even walked down the aisle! The only person or persons they needed to inform were THE QUEEN and the Prince of Wales before a public announcement was made. This could have been done later and IN PRIVATE to those two persons.
What I really want to know is how the hell did they keep this under wrap for so long. He met her through Soho House. He must have been practically living there for years without anyone knowing.
This is who they are. They are both elitist, louche douchebags.
I have to admit this is pretty impressive. Most people think of the royal life as one of service and sacrifice, but Meghan has made it all about self-actualization.
It’s a big celeb pivot. She’s even using KP twitter to like celeb tweets.
I may start turning the blog into #divorcewatch or something like that because I do not even see the point of applying royal standards to this woman or comparing her to Kate or any of the other royals. Meghan is NOT a royal and is not even slightly interested in living up to any standards.
She half-assed it after the wedding to check off all the royal events and establish her royal “brand,” but that’s it. She’s now gone full celeb, and it’s a bit like following Countess Luanne and her latest boy toy. Yes, Luanne was technically a Countess and very amusing and exciting to follow, but there was nothing even slightly aristocratic about her at all. Meghan is like that. She’s technically a duchess, but it’s just a name. Outside of that she’s just another C-list celeb trying to sell herself as a humanitarian lifestyle maven.
I’m not surprised. They only have been liking tweets from the royal family Instagram or from charities. Only 3 4 of the likes from the last 5 days have been about William, everything else is Rachel or the pheasant.
Exactly. The royals have done this for decades and the foreword is always short with maybe one personal anecdote and they are never on the cover. It’s a HUGE contrast.
I don’t mind people disagreeing with me. I just think that Meghan has ambitions outside the royal sphere, so I don’t think Kate is what she’s measuring herself against. She’s not using the royal yardstick anymore. She was still using it during Wimbledon, but she knows that thanks to her family she can’t meet the royal standards, so now she’s pivoting hard towards celebrity. Her competition is Chrissy Tiger, Posh, Amal, Angeline, and Gwyneth now.
Yeah, but Megs can’t sustain a competition with those celebrities long term.
The only good thing about the cookbook is that it brought publicity to the Grenfell women and helped them tell their stories. Meghan, of course turned the spotlight on herself with the pics, the video and the foreword, but it was still kind of nice that she was willing to highlight the work of the kitchen.
But she ruined all of that now. Doria’s presence will overshadow EVERYTHING. Meghan just made it 100% clear that her goal here wasn’t to help the kitchen. Her goal was to use the Grenfell name to get as much publicity as possible for herself.
At least she’s being honest. She’s not supporting THEM or helping them in their work. THEY are supporting HER and helping her get her dream cookbook published.
That’s where their relationship is right now. Charles had to step in and save her wedding. The Sam Cohen “pretty pink princess” makeover was a dud. Her family attacked her all summer long and the brf did nothing. The public doesn’t see her as a real royal.
Meghan is pissed and feeling like a victim right now. She thinks she’s the real star and these people should be doing a better job of protecting her and supporting her, and they are most definitely not doing their job. Thanks to their incompetence her “royal” launch wasn’t the success she expected and she spent most of August in a funk.
But she now sees a light at the end of the tunnel. Now that she has Hamilton and the Grenfell names behind her, she’s feeling like Harry and the brf are maybe not as necessary as she thought, and she can do this on her own, as a celeb and not a royal. She’s not ready to break out yet, after all she still needs that US tour under her belt, but there’s definitely a plan B on the works. Her focus from now on will be promoting herself and Doria, and building up her resume for an eventual break with the brf and a return to the US. To that end she needs (i) the US tour, (ii) some kind of self-produced documentary, (iii) a baby.
It’s so disappointing. People in the UK might buy it to support the Grenfell victims. People in the US will probably only buy it if they’re Meghan fans. The only person who truly wins is Meghan in this scenario since she has “HRH Duchess of Sussex” in a very, visible font on the cover with her picture.
The real goal should be helping these people get into permanent housing to help their families, not perpetuate their temporary living conditions.
You too? That bothered the hell out of me I thought I was the only one. I dont think her name or title should be anywhere on the front. That’s why people are thinking it’s her damn book.
OMG, she convinced some hapless charity to put together an expensive cookbook, took credit for the whole thing, wrote a THREE PAGE foreword because she thinks she’s Anthony Bourdain, and is now hosting a COOKING SHOW in KP, just like the one she pitched to HGTV with Lindsay.
This is hilarious, I’ve never seen a royal so obviously use a charity as a vanity project. This woman is amazing.
The foreword…OMG.
“Keeping the global spirit of community alive…” LOLOLOLOL. She can’t just sponsor a charity cookbook, she has to have some grandiose mission behind it.
The word salad is EPIC!!! A “Passport on a Plate…” I’m dying.
BTW, that’s the paragraph that allows her to spend half the foreword talking about herself, including laying out her entire resume in one paragraph.
Seriously, six out of fourteen full paragraphs (I’m counting the one-sentence anecdotes separated by asterisks as one paragraph) are about her, and FIVE paragraphs start with “I” – “I was setting in,” “I recently watched,” “I asked,” “I have a lifelong interest,” and “I’ve spent many years.
I haven’t stopped laughing. THIS is why I have a blog following this woman. I wake up on Monday morning already missing my weekend and dreading the first day of the week like Garfield the Cat, and then I see something like this in my notifications. Holy hell. “Passport on a Plate…” LOLOLOLOLOLOL.
So her secrect visits have been for a photoshoot to go along with a cookbook. If all the profits weren’t going to the Grenfell community I would be side eyeing this book.
Yes this was a vist or two for the photos. One Kate striped shirt, one white button down that’s actually unbuttoned inappropriately. This reminds me of her India visit.
Sweet salty pickled cheetos! Wakey wakey Houseplantfan. It’s a COOKBOOK! Her big charity unveil is a FRIGGIN COOKBOOK and her contribution is a photoshoot and a 3-page FORESALAD excuse for a foreword. THREE PAGES of word salad ABOUT HERSELF!
LOL Omg you couldn’t make this underwhelming shit up. Not to mention the proceeds go to, “help support communities through cooking and sharing food” That is the shadiest excuse for an explanation as to where the profits will go I’ve seen in a long time. And slapped RIGHT on the cover of the book. So the money will go to mentally and physically scarred people without permanent housing cooking? Okay Meg. Cool. LOL. ½ assed doesn’t even cover this wreckage.
Mio posted al three pages too. I wonder if Meghan will sue him?
I’m baffled by the purpose of this project. At first I thought that the money would go to the survivors to help then relive their life, but, no. It’s going to the kitchen so it can expand to seven days a week and to similar projects. Isn’t the ultimate goal to have people NOT need the kitchen because they have their homes? Are the Grenfell survivors still living in hotels? If so, shouldn’t they be helping them to move into homes? Are they expecting to stay homeless forever? Is that why they need the community kitchen open every day? Shouldn’t that be a national scandal?
