Richard Palmer on the current situation, family drama, KP errors, Meghan’s ghosting, internet trolls from both sides. I’m still amazed that Royal Correspondents are speaking out the situation couldn’t be more clear nevertheless it seems the vicious circle is not stopping.

I’m also surprised that he had the guts to blame Harry and the KP statement for this treatment. I think he’s absolutely right, but I’m surprised to see a royal reporter calling it out so blatantly. It’s so ironic that Harry and Meghan, who complained so loudly about social media trolls and who, for the love of mercy, legit have a huge anti-bullying campaign in their name, ended up creating their own vicious troll army.
BTW, I think the royal reporters contributed here by interacting with and retweeting the trolls. Raise crows and they’ll peck your eyes out, as we say in Spanish.
I’m also surprised to see him compare the Markles to all the other royal-ish personalities who have made money on the connection. I don’t think he mentions Pippa and James, but they should be on that list too. True, they were more classy about it and their cashing-in attempts were mostly ineffective, but they still tried. They were all criticized for it, just as the Markles are being criticized.
I was wondering why Meghan and Harry’s engagements were so effing boring compared to all the other royal engagements. He explains that the royal reporters are not allowed to listen in. That’s why we don’t get cute quotes, interactions, or any substantive information and it all looks like a useless fashion show. Harry and Megs are really shooting themselves in the foot with this one.
That last one is huge, imo. Palmer seems to think that they may get something more substantive, particularly on the charity front, in the fall, but I very much doubt that. They will get another nothing-burger forum with some crap “Girls Together” umbrella being unveiled.
That seems to be the speculation I’m seeing. I would hope that W&K would be smart enough to start distancing themselves from this shit show. There is no reason for them to continue to bail out Harry. It’s a waste of their time and pr capital.
Might as well. He’s got to know by now that she’s never going to get protocol right. Things like that are exactly why she had her pr peeps leak details about the “dumb” protocol things she has to do now.

And now Sam Cohen is okaying her clothes? In what universe? It’s been clear form the very beginning (starting with the photocall facial drama) that these two do whatever they want and no one says boo to them. The clothes are being picked in Soho House with Jess. Sam gets to see it when Meghan shows up in it. She’s not vetting anything.
Hell, even Givenchy is going “we had eight fittings and this is what she wanted because she’s a strong personality and she knows what she wants.” They couldn’t get a waist tucked in and their fashion reputation was on the line. Do you really think Sam gets to veto necklines? Sam is lucky she got a backup job after quitting BP in a huff. She’s not saying shit.

He is a swell guy, and pretty much liked by everyone. He would be invited [to top gatherings] by dint of his talent and personality. Within the confines of the city, being with him was definitely a useful platform for her. He would be bigger in terms of the Establishment of Toronto. He would be leverage for Meghan.
’A lot of TV shows have been shot in Toronto, but you don’t often see someone like Meghan up on the billboards. She was different in that respect [and] I feel like if she had never come to Toronto she wouldn’t be marrying Prince Harry. There was something about coming to Toronto, becoming friends with the Mulroneys, and having a high social cachet. It was the perfect storm that created the opportunity.’
Did Govani think Meghan deliberately engineered her social elevation? ‘All of life is deliberate. I think she took advantage of the opportunity that came her way. It was a case of serendipity; opportunity meets luck. There was something inside of her that wasn’t content with just being an actress. I mean, what would have happened after Suits? She wasn’t getting any younger.’
Yet all this is hindsight. Back in the summer of 2014, before the doors slid shut on her relationship with Cory, Meghan was blissfully happy with her lot. Indeed, life ‘had never felt so good’. She declared as much in her quirky blog, The Tig, which she had launched that year with the aim of further raising her profile.
