The royals give Meghan a free pass because they stupidly think that she makes them more relatable to Commonwealth citizens in Africa, Caribbean, Asia. Apart from a handful of elites in these countries trying to curry favour with the royals, the vast majority could not care less. Royals draw the line at mistreatment of staff ONLY because are 100% dependent on the enormous staff to protect them from the public and create public goodwill.

The staff knows where all the bodies are buried. They HAVE to keep them happy. Meghan has done a lot of stupid things, but abusing an employee who has gold-plated media contacts and ALL THE MERCHING RECEIPTS is probably the stupidest thing she has ever done.

I think having a biracial family member does give them additional credibility with minorities. It’s just not as huge a benefit as they expected, partly because Harry and Meghan are doing a stellar job at promoting themselves and their “bump” and an absolutely crap job at promoting the family and its interests. The scholarships were barely mentioned, the Commonwealth canopy was an afterthought, The Queen wasn’t even mentioned in the official suffrage anniversary congratulations, and Charles was a footnote with regards to the environmental stuff. It was all MEMEMEMEMEME.
